Mindful

What is it about humans that set us apart

The crowning characteristic that enables art

Not a physical attribute that we can see

It’s a quality of mind that makes us free

Most other creatures act on instinct alone

They do not reflect on what seems to be known

Gifts that we have that gives us our grace

Being self-reflective and choosing our pace

If we make smart choice and want to achieve

A key to our progress is what we believe

It’s also about our ability to change

To look at behavior and rearrange

Human life is not something written in stone

When you become mindful you begin to atone

Awareness of this and awareness of that

Enables a knowing where you are at

And when you want to make some large moves

Your mindfulness enables creating new grooves

As you traverse your own path through the night

The north star of mindfulness reveals your bright light

How has the lack of self-awareness hindered you in the past?

How has it helped you make changes in both who and how you are?

Are you always mindful of who you are being?

What do you do when you forget who you are?

Are others helpful getting you back to center?

I have always been a seeker, always looking for the answers to what seekers ponder. I can remember Dr. Maxwell Maltz and Psychocybernetics; Dr. Carl Rogers On Becoming a Person. Moving through my legal training and practicing law the focus was always about people and how to better their lives. All that searching, reading, studying and introspective work culminated in this collection of daily readings for seekers.

My work in the world has progressed from fighting legal cases to mediating divorces to helping people understand the essentials of relationship and collaborating to these poems. How can we collaborate effectively and work with each other in harmony to create the world we seek. How can we mindfully enable this world to become a place that works for all.

My prayer is that through introspection using these poems as a guide we can all grow together in making the world the Heaven on Earth we all aspire toward.
