Cancer

Cancer

What happens as cell growth takes on its own mind
Dividing as it pleases being very wild
Most of our cells follow a plan and time
Cancer acts erratically listening its own rhyme

What is the cause where does it come from
Sometimes the environment sometimes a demon
Sometimes genetic sometimes the air
Never sensing right or wrong or what might be fair

Once someone is stricken with chronic disease
Life takes on new dimensions some thrown to their knees
The treatment is god awful the expense very huge
The battle not predictable who’ll win and who’ll lose

As we fight this scrounge that knows no bounds like age or race
It teaches us compassion we could be in their place
The learning that encircles all within the sphere
More profound than any school learning from your fear

It tells us life is fragile no matter how “big” we are
It measures everyone against a standard bar
When placed in the circle of this powerful force
Let cancer be your teacher let go of your remorse

What have you learned from challenging situations? Have
the lessons had value you did not see at the time? How
do you use the lessons of the past to enhance your life today?
What does your capacity for resilience provide?
