December

December
It’s blustery cold with a wind chill of ice

When you venture outside it’s not very nice

The days squeezing shorter freezing the nights

Wet snow falling so hard you must shovel twice

The old year that’s ending fraying at its seams

Christmas needs tending with its pregnant dreams

Pretense is celebrating with smiles false and worn

There is too much gyrating hopping to every store

For some this time’s blessed with family all around

For others so lonely eyes stare at the ground

Reflection is deepened as you look inside

Gazing back at year’s journey what you leave behind

You make resolutions for what will be next

You set new goals and visions and make up new tests

If you are lucky and smart and awake

You carve time to thank friends for their gifts of grace

The sweet sheen of brandy and glowing hot embers

Let them fill your insides so you have remembers

And as you look forward to another year

Acknowledge the servers who bring such good cheer

Do you take stock and reflect at the end of the year?

What is the process you use?

How honest are you with yourself?

How do you check your own capacity to be honest?

How do you use the reflection?

How do you learn from what you might have done differently?

How do you plan for next year?
