Gifting
How did we get so focused on who owns what
When all we accumulate is often for naught
It doesn’t heal your sadness cure cancer other ills
When you feel alone and cold it cannot warm your chills
As you think of the future where your life will be
Please do not forget service and acts of charity
It’s really quite amusing to think about Manhattan
Purchased for $26 a sum of so little matter
Indians could not comprehend ownership of earth
They saw land as public it’s yours from time of birth
We have all we ever need on this bountiful planet
We all need to figure out how to share what’s on it
Technology and science great gifts of our invention
Enable us to provide for all let’s harness that intention
If we could give to everyone roof food and avocation
This world could be a joyous place abounding in creation
When you hold this vision think not of sacrifice
Be aware that your gift would be giving twice
Remember what you donate will come back to you
Your gift a hospitable planet that’s a simple true
What motivates and drives you?
Do you think of yourself as a giver or a taker?
What do you give and what do you get in return?
What’s more satisfying, the giving or the taking?
Do you have enough? What’s missing?
What do you have to give away?
